Those Were The Days: A Poem by Jayashree Bhattacherjee

Image
Enthralled with pieces of the universe in the palms of our hands Collecting pelting hailstones fallen from the sky and scattered over the land With the nor'wester sweeping the mangoes off the trees Wildly we ran to gather them, heart full of glee Yes, those were the days and that's the way we were Life so simple, yet in everything there was a charm so fair No technology was there then sweeping the land, no addiction We weren't enamored by a digital attachment in our hand, no contraption There was no hourly text messages, no evening spent over the phone But had a long walk with friends sharing an ice-cream cone How we laughed away the hours, smiled over stupidest things Thinking we could surely fly if we had wings We lived in a world of fairy tales, oh, those were the days Barefoot along the track we ran, covering ten kilometers  both ways No worries, no responsibilities, we dreamed then not of wealth or fame Never had more than we needed, contented we were, all the same Can...

You're My Best Teacher: A Poem by Aaradhana Agarwal

Image
I grew up watching you handle life's challenges with perfection I grew up watching how you overcame difficulties without a companion,  I grew up watching your 'never to give up attitude' with determination.  I grew up watching you never get worried about an uncertain future,  I grew up watching you how deep faith in god clears obstacles quicker.  You never put on me the burden of high expectations,  On my little success, you are the first to  say 'congratulations'.  You never compared me with any other children of the family You allowed me to learn skills at my pace, slowly but steadily.  Even today, when I am a mother of a teen girl, you inspire me,  On my mistakes when people criticize me, you don't judge me.  Ma! You have Inculcated values in me by practicing those in your life I do the same; my daughter knows how to be victorious in her strife.

Mother's Magic!: A Poem by Lakshmi Ajoy

The inexplicable tolerance of your pain at my birth, The miraculous power of your healing touch in my illness, The magical glamour of your smile at my achievements, The remarkable taste of your food on my platter, The incredible patience of your moods at my tantrums, The unparalleled experience of your methods at handling my mistakes, The astounding intuitions of your mind at my sorrows, The unprecedented sense of your mind at unveiling secrets, The mind boggling sacrifices of your own needs for the family, The unaccountable protection of my self respect and worth always, You are that phenomenal creation of the Almighty, An extension of The Divine's Mercy, Care and Grace, An epitome of supreme unconditional Love, Someone who creates a sense of belonging, To alter my flaws and guide me on the righteous path, Mother, you make me who I am truly meant to be, today and everyday, While being the ideal example of the Imperfectly Perfect, And mirroring the qualities of being Perfectly Impe...

An Ode To My Mother: A Poem by Dr. Sonia Gupta

Image
O' you are a wonderful creation of God, Without whom is incomplete this whole world, Embodiment of love, sacrifices and care, A small word which is known as ‘mother’! O' bearing nine months of struggle and pain, You gave birth to a life and are born again, Hiding your own tears you bring smile to your children, You can read your child’s heart without being spoken! O' you nourish your child with nutrients of love and care, You never let your child's life to be dull and bare, Your every deed is pure and selfless, You seek your life in your child's happiness! O' you are child’s first teacher and the best friend, You always hold his hands till the end, You have been blessed with a golden heart, With colors of motherhood you paint a lovable canvas! O' you are the one, who turn a house into home, You are an enlightening candle even in gloom, You have a magical wand to bring miracles, Truly, mother you are the most precious treasure!

Those Were the Days: A Poem by Ambika Gibikote Tadipatri

Those were the days, before many a yester, To you, I’d run as fast as I could muster, “Amma, hug me, please”, I’d longingly whisper, And you’d draw me to your bosom, without a falter.   Overjoyed with your soft and eternally healing motherly potion, Tantalizing tenderness, and tenaciously tranquil devotion, And holistic harmony that flowed through you like a fountain, Enriched I was, to swim in your compassionate ocean.   Momentous were the numerous events when I’d felt overwhelmed, Engulfed by your exultant, empathetic, and emphatic encouragement, Absorbed by your angelic, altruistic, and amenably absolute acceptance, And nurtured by your compassionately caring and consoling transcendence.   Tremulously, my mind highlights every memory of your magical touch, Heartily unfurling effulgent love and light from my very birth, Elysian thoughts, words, and deeds that you, so effortlessly, unearthed. Divinely filling every inch of my heart that you traversed.   Those were t...

She Has Always Been Part of Mine: A Poem by Ritu Kamra Kumar

Image
How reel of  her memories spontaneously rewinds Emotions teem and thrive, she has always been part of mine !   How I was born to her by stroke of destiny Humbly I hold her legacy in ecstasy !   How her deft hands stitched our fancy frocks Her caressing touch enough to melt a rock   How her culinary  skills, pinnis and saffron kheer Made our adrenaline rush in thrill !   How she encircled me in her arms Jocund joy, soothing lullaby made me cosy and warm   How her wise advice, her wit and writings were the best Harmony and happiness of the family  her eternal quest   How her kind eyes and  compassionate counseling Poised peace and noble deeds gave life a new lease   How disease made her feeble, worn out and fragile Unable to do chores patiently she walked holding doors   How saintly she snapped the worldly binds Reciting hymns chanting Ram-Ram She had  love for all of the lasting kind!! Salute to you Maa, I see you in moon l...

An Ode to My Mother: A Poem by Maria Brenda D. Acalla

Image
She was a woman of everlasting beauty, she stood tall with her grace. She looked young and lovely, wearing a smile on her face. She was adored by young children, to them she gave so much joy. Telling stories, making pancakes, gave them toys to enjoy. She was the strongest woman I'd ever known, in her most feminine way. I seldom saw her frown, in the midst of a busy day. She wasn't afraid of all the odds, not even a single storm. She wasn't even sad, at those times when she mourned. Her heart bleeds for one who needs justice, To her it is a pass towards serenity and peace. She had fought many battles, not for her own sake. She was a woman who seldom commits a mistake. Her spouse was her greatest fan, looking upon her tenderness. To her were the eyes of men, when she offered a hand or kindness. I was telling you about this extraordinary woman, her beauty will surely last. For as long as I'll live, she'll remain in the cast.

I always revel in extolling your ethereal beauty and angelic appearance My blissful domain, the charming ambience of your appealing presence From the moment I got you into my life It has been imbued with ardor, beauty and truth together thrive You had a redemptive power for my worldly vexations Extricating me from all hardships with your magic potion You make me so besotted over your sobriety 'n sedateness You, who always stand at the summit of my existence I long for your petting, your unflinching love so worth You aren't with me, miles apart, yet I always feel your warmth I crave for the little joys of holding hands together and carefree giggles I miss your gentle touch, when close by you I did snuggle A great preacher, a beautiful teacher, my confidante and forever friend Firm but never fierce, your inexhaustible love how can I not comprehend ? You have enriched my life in so many ways Your inspiration taught me to become a loving mother day by day Each moment spent with you...
