Earth: An article by Azucena Libiran Gonzales

Earth Neither historical nor scientific data deal with the absolute origin of everything, the deepest, the ultimate meaning of our existence. Could science refute the beautiful manners of creations, only the most intelligent and powerful being had dominion? The earth willed its existence by the loving power of God. It is the third planet from the sun and the only object in the universe known to harbor life. It is the space where we all dwell. Distinct races abiding in dissimilar countries, which are only small parts of the earth. Astronauts who took pictures of the earth while in space described earth as a large, heavy globe.  Everything around the earth, living and non-living supports the Supreme Maker's creatures. The land made of rocks and soils; water, mostly in oceans and seas. Needless to say, the air we breathe, is all around us. Plants and animals breathe in air, too. With all elements, arrays, and resources, these covered the earth surface. The words, "

Utopian Earth: An article by Vandana Bhasin

Utopian Earth The third planet in the Solar System of Milky Way galaxy, I am named Earth. Of all the celestials in the Universe, I am the only one blessed with life. For millions of years, I was just a ball of gases with layers of land and water. Then fortuitously, I reared vegetation. I was truly elated! I was unique! Even without any rings around my body and with just one moon revolving around me, I was exceptional! Over time, I became so abundant that I was totally green.  I cherished my greens and blues, my beauty and bounty with care and tenderness. Soon, a very special species took abode on me. They called themselves “humans.” It was a magnificent species with brilliant and creative mind and a heart filled with affection and emotions. Humans started exploring more of me. I fell in love with this species and their inquisitiveness and I supported them enthusiastically. I admired the way in which they took care of my flora and fauna and lovingly referre

Google's Earth: A poem by Aarti Agarwal

Google's Earth With a swish and swipe of my thumb,                                              Riding the Google, I roam the earth, Hovering thousands of feet above the land I peep at sentiments bubbling in its heart. I gaze at gorgeous sunshine Blushing the earth, turning it orange and pink. I glimpse at its sun tanned skin Sweating in the desert's heat. I jettison up to the Himalayas Watch the earth aiming for the sky, And then shift back south to view Grass nodding to wind's lullaby. Oh! But I also heard her hopeless sigh On my retreat to my place. So many buildings, so little land? My city looks like a concrete maze! Beneath her sigh, was a faint whimper, "Put an end to all of this, No one has bequeathed me to you, You are stealing it from your kids". From euphoric bliss falling back into the abyss I pledge to pay heed to its desperate plea, Cause to make earth the happiest it has ever been The cha

A handful of earth: A poem by Munira Dalal

A HANDFUL OF EARTH Give a potter a handful of earth He molds and shapes it; gives you something of worth Give a gardener a handful of earth and a spade He gives you trees abundant that give you shade Give a miner a handful of earth He gives you coal, diamonds and so forth Give a handful of earth to a farmer in a field He satisfies our hunger with his abundant yield Give a handful of earth to a builder and architect He gives cities and structures that are perfect Give a handful of earth to a gravedigger He lays you beneath it; be a beggar or gold digger Give a handful of earth to leaders of countries and state They will draw boundaries on it; leading to war and hate Give a child a handful of earth to play He kneads and shapes it; he loves the clay Give an archaeologist a handful of earth He will centuries bygone sites and artifacts unearth Our Earth is a natural giver and nurturer With reverence and love, we call her Mother Pray, let’s look after her with love and

Earth: A poem by Dr. Sonia Gupta

  EARTH O’ Lord, you blessed us with this sacred earth, In the laps of whom everything rolls after birth, A rare example of sacrifices and kindness, Selflessly provides everyone with all comforts! Food, water, creatures and fresh air to breathe, She fulfills everyone's necessities and needs, Under the roof of that open vast blue sky, She floats in an ocean of low and high tides! Sometimes scorching sun, sometimes heavy rains, Sometimes frozen she is, sometimes withered grains, Deforestation, pollution, and haunting of animals, Disasters like earthquakes and Tsunami bring her tears! She has become a witness of wars, for years, Bathed in cruel blood with flowing dreadful rivers. Her children only are giving her pain for own selves, But, she keeps on bearing every wound on her chest! For the world, she is a lifeless piece as a coal, But, in real words, she is the pious holy soul, She demands nothing but a sigh of peace and love, O’ Lord! Bless our mother from the heaven above! O'

Afsaana: A poem by Kiren Babal

Song of a caged bird: A poem by Madhumita Bhattacharjee Nayyar

Image
SONG OF A CAGED BIRD She ventures into unknown territory, Wanting to reach all with her story, She flaps her wings And sweetly sings, Singing in an expressive croon, Waiting each day for that only boon Of a free flight Across the skies, every day and night. Her song moves with the rhythm of the breeze, Ripples with the waves of the seas, Goes up and down the hills, At times sitting atop the pensive tree. The longing for a nest, A loving place to rest, Surrounded by her own, Not in the caged comforts alone. She sings on till her voice chokes, In her tears, her feathers soak, She does not let her lilt jitter By the weight of the bonded fetters. She wants to be one with all, Singing together in a melodious call, Breaking the cage, the dividing wall And sing new songs, not sounding banal.   She yearns for freedom And happy, colorful seasons, Freedom in her song rings, That is why, I know, the caged bird sings. Yes, s
