Song of Nature: A Poem by Neeti Parti

 

The gentle zephyr affectionaEtely caressed the cuckoo

Overcome by emotion, the ebony blackbird responded with a melodious ‘kooo-ooo’
‘Witt-witt splee-plink’ sang the fork-tailed barn swallows, as their blue backs shone in sunshine
Infected by melody, ‘chiddik- chiddik’ went the house sparrows continuing to build their nest
‘Hoooah hoo hoo hoo chirry chirry chirry choreeo’ joined in the dove
The mynahs screeched loudly as they took off in pairs to search for scraps
‘Pia ow ey awe’ yowled the peacock loudly
To which the rose-ringed parakeet whistled a sweet warning
The excited cat mewed in response to the multitude of sounds
Annoying the flock of Jungle Babblers who launched into a litany of admonishing harsh chirps
The chameleon nodded in agreement as it turned green within the leafy surrounds
The squirrel scrambled up and down the Gulmohar chattering incessantly in happiness
The metallic blue, purple and maroon sunbird hummed a tune as it fluttered from flower-to-flower sipping nectar
‘Charr charr’ chipped in the Woodpecker as it drummed a tattoo into the teak
Multihued butterflies flapped colorfully as they lighted on inviting blossoms
The red wattled lapwing walked around in a ladylike manner surveying all that was happening
 A toddler heard the live orchestra and gurgled in delight
Prompting her parents to look up from their laptops and laugh at the sight
The gentle zephyr came by again and carried exultation far and wide
Bearing the music of nature on its wings light

Born to doting parents on a chilly winter noon,  Grew up with four siblings, life was like a boon.   Then came an abrupt end to all my idle fooling,  Born again to lessons, as they started my schooling.  Thought had grown up, now that I was in college,  Born again to lectures, busy acquiring knowledge.  Got a job to my relief, set about to make a career,  Born again despite the whims of bosses every year.                    Married, now that I was grown up, happy to be released,  Born again, at my new home, with many to be pleased.  Then came my li'l Angel, happy the cycle had ended,  Born again as a parent, on us,  she wholly depended.  Finally put in my papers,  wanting to be an idyll,  Inner self, however, wanted my passion to unbridle.      Born again a writer, having found my Muse,  Loving it every bit, a life I got to choose. It looks just like 'ordinary' as the word is... No shiny wraps to cover its face... Simple as it looks, But every page has a hook for taking another look. Be gentle when you flip its page You'll find some imperfect perfect moments at every stage.. Don't skip a few... for it bores you... You might miss  my  accomplishments, tucked away neatly in a line or two...   They say, ' Life  is not a bed of roses'  You'll see... Some lines are full of agony and bruises... Turn the corners delicately... For some fragile smiles may try to slip through, impatiently... Every line that you have read... ..Is the truth I have always dread... It's not me that you read... it's  my  soul that you've reached! That's not all!  You heard me right! The best is yet to arrive!
