The paper ring: A poem by Bhargavi Ravindra

“The gold may lose its glitter and grace
The ring may lose its radiance
But my love for you will remain beyond the realms of age!”

With these words, he slipped a paper ring
The night breeze blew past them tantalizing
Night shone brighter than ever, with millions of stars twinkling!

He said apologetically, he has nothing much to offer
No platinum, diamond, gold or silver for her
love written all over it he held the ring made of paper!

Things would change for better someday, she knew
The Sun would shine bright, her world bathed in the golden hue
Her heart swelled at his love so pure as morning dew!

His hard work started paying off as he kept climbing up
His ambition to reach the stars he moved up and up
She missed all his boyish chatter amidst his growing up!

Slowly their talks drifted from small things to big gains
They no more walked hand in hand in the cramped by-lanes
A cappuccino, false glittering ceilings, she felt a subdued pain!

He would now drive her round the city soaking in the nightlife
And go on endlessly what is he looking in her as his wife
No more bouquets of dried flowers, those seashells prize!

Today under a starry night he placed a beautiful diamond ring
But bereft of those lovely all promising song the letters sing
And then bent on his knees he placed on her finger the paper ring!
