Tears in the land: A poem by Albert Juniho Onwuchekwa

She glooms in shadows of sullen solitude
Sunken by the plague of servitude
That chokes the lungs of freedom
yearning for a breath of stardom.
Despite rich in the splendor of luxury
Yet the land bleeds with severe penury.
With pestilence of autocracy
Weaving the fabrics of democracy.
The beauty of African pride
Masked in the veil of the bride
Endowed with rich cultural diversity
Sailing in the cape of adversity
Reminiscent of heroes in the nook
Overflows tears in the brook
Singing hues of lamentation
To heal the scars of corruption.
