Motherhood: A poem by Sonal Singh

You know you are in love when
Tiny fists curl around your fingers
You know you are in love when
On your baby’s face, a smile lingers

You know you are in love when
Your children’s laughter fills your soul
You know you are in love when
In their happiness you become whole

You know you are in love when
Their first word is music to your ears
You know you are in love when
Their wounds reduce you to tears.

You know you are in love when
You receive a hug for no reason
You know you are in love when
Joy lasts always, in every season.

You know you are in love when
Your children accomplish and rise
You know you are in love when
Their progress is your ultimate prize.
