Friendship: A poem by Bhargavi Ravindra


(This poem is dedicated to my friend whose premature demise several decades ago ..yet I have kept her alive through my poems ...As a tribute to her loving memory every year I dedicate a poem to her ...)

To hide my tears seemingly enjoyed raindrops on my face
The downpour was my shield to let tears flow with grace

There was a strong hand on my shoulder, just out of the blue
A gentle whisper in my ears “remember, I am there for you!

A friend can see the tears hidden amidst the raindrops
His/her ‘s warm hug will let you shed tears till rain stops!

At crossroads or dead-end, is always a true loving friend
sunshine or rain, all through the way, till that elusive end.

Family, you are born with, friends you make along the way
Friendship is a bond that grows stronger and richer every day!

Childhood  friendships make for those true honey-sweet memories
The fading sunshine, as things go black n bleak; to bask in its glory!

You came into my life as a soothing balm when I was feeling lost
Your care, concern, comradeship enriched my life beyond cost.

True friendship is eternal and blissful, that golden silence perfects
True friendship is to understand what silence echoes and reflects!

A good friend in life has a huge impact on happiness that takes us far
left for your heavenly abode too soon, may be to be my guiding star!

Even without you around, I feel your presence in all my life’s event
our friendship sure be cherished and continue to inspire Gen-next!

Born to doting parents on a chilly winter noon,  Grew up with four siblings, life was like a boon.   Then came an abrupt end to all my idle fooling,  Born again to lessons, as they started my schooling.  Thought had grown up, now that I was in college,  Born again to lectures, busy acquiring knowledge.  Got a job to my relief, set about to make a career,  Born again despite the whims of bosses every year.                    Married, now that I was grown up, happy to be released,  Born again, at my new home, with many to be pleased.  Then came my li'l Angel, happy the cycle had ended,  Born again as a parent, on us,  she wholly depended.  Finally put in my papers,  wanting to be an idyll,  Inner self, however, wanted my passion to unbridle.      Born again a writer, having found my Muse,  Loving it every bit, a life I got to choose. You left to accomplish your onus to the nation with pride Leaving behind your aroma and love for the new bride. The orange ball rises, piercing the dark skies But she awaits your return, with those dusky brown eyes The taste of your last touch, on her fervent lips, The warmth of your arms sank her in petrichloral dips. The musk of your embrace is saturated in her breath   She’ll wait for you until she meets death    The long wait made her rough, brittle, and dry Still, she beams with the longing that you’ll return, or at least try A few pearls dropped soothing the warm dusk Along with wet kisses settling the hollow dust   The rains that were seized at the corner of her eye And the rains that were waiting at the heavenly doors, Finally, poured out on his startling arrival, As they waft the soothing aroma again Of Love and Petrichor!
