The city: A poem by Ketki Jalan

Flashing Illuminati and decorated language Denizens crossing gangingly busted streets Homes and dreams silhouette across the sky Recycled people with elusive jokes Preserving few living traditions amidst expansions Immaculate culinary ingredients clubbed Giving most treasured spices a treat Away from the guard of local cultivator Iconic heritage buildings spell out truths untold Along the twisted and turned roads Posters of premiers smiling cunningly with banality puns Gentle air bounces overlooking fame A birds eye view politely dilate and absorb The morning sun foster instigating conversations Birds chirping gleefully in joy, weaving a way Lurching cars in traffic embrace the ubiquitous Jetlagged showstoppers of protected borders Lost in the city with heartbeats to find a rhythm Or old conservations in the city falling apart Grateful to almighty for the privileged arabesque   To abide in constantly evolving city with calm and clarity. ...

It's my realm: A poem by Ankurita Khajanchi

Image
Antidotes and tonics, I tried them all The devil of despair, still stood tall; I caviled and whined for reasons all silly Towards every sign of despondency, I was drawn willy nilly. Dejected, tired, and exhausted even to give in One day I decided, to not let the brute win. When the doleful demon of the past raised its head sorrow I refused to be sad, for it would mean nothing tomorrow; When trepidation of the next, would bring its ally fear Whatever will be will be, I would shout at it with cheer. Endorphins and Dopamines were exalted by my pluck And it so seemed true, that brave are favored by luck; As the potion of happiness trickled down my thought Making me adamant of staying happy, no matter what. The mind that kept boggling at things out of its control The choice to be happy pacified my soul; I broke up with the companions, all mirth's nemesis  It never occurred to me ignorance is such bliss. Now I need no reasons and rhymes to be glad It's my realm, try-hard, you cannot ...

My grandma’s secret: A story by Amrita Mallik

Image
I had enthusiastically watched my grandma making pickles, naturally fermenting them under the sun. “These are your body’s best friends.” She would say. At night, when the entire house had retired, she would stick certain labels on her array of coloured glass bottles, and keep them in her closet. Since I slept with her I would see her doing it almost every day. “What are these?” I would curiously enquire. She would generously smile and say, “You will get to know when you grow up. Just remember these, too, are good for your health.” *** Years passed. We moved to the big city but grandma continued to stay in the village. Neither we could convince her to come over to our place nor could we spend days with her. In fact, our pressing schedules turned our happy world upside down. Soon the news reached us. She had left for heavenly abode. “This box is for baby,” the caretaker uncle gave me an antique box, “and, amma had insisted that nobody should touch it.” With a heavy heart, we returned to ...

The restless soul: A poem by Mousumee Baruah

Image
Like a wind, I love to wander   in the trance Like a fawn leap and dance   Stagnant water cannot reach the ocean Want to be a river unsettle, always in motion.   My human soul wraps in the restlessness. Mind running in races.   Roaming in the labyrinth, solving riddles. Walking through rocks and pebbles.   With hopes and despairs Flaws and flairs.   Let not storms inside me subsides.   In storms, I oar fast   with my might   And reach the horizon Where lighthouse beacons.   I love the restless gurgling streams... Effervescence clouds in the blue realms.   For I find myself in the restlessness. Where lies my zeal, spirit of liveliness.   I find my answers and grow. Like lotus in mud, in imperfections, I glow.

The city: A poem by Mousumee Baruah

The moon looks lonely as it lifts with finesse Some of my sheer loneliness.   Silhouette of voidness descends in twilight And in the vacuity of this city, I become quite   Tears pour ink with rues With a quill made from the myriad of plumage and hues.   I pen about    the land of petrichor Hums rhapsody of my valleys in the moors.   The moon who has no boundaries above could see my land She admits that my lost land is indeed grand.   In the silence of the blue night We chat often about my lost abode and in trance took a flight.   And when some familiar faces appear like a blink Time calls the effulgent star and she disappears with a wink   And I merge again in moist vacuity in this lonely city. Sealed some loved faces and moments for eternity.   Moon too cannot stay with me forever. Though she always tries to share my loneliness in her shoulder in this city of skyscrapers.   Every sundown sky I wait for the moon from my galle...
